Platemaking systems supplier Nela, Oakdale, Minn., announced that it has converted 28 newspaper locations to smaller web widths, having installed 53 punch-benders, along with many Nela tool-less lock-ups.

Among the sites, The New York Times converted numerous printing locations with Nela, modifying 12 existing plate benders and installing eight new Nela benders or its web-width reduction from 54 inches to 48 inches.

Other newspapers contracted with Nela for new punchbending equipment, bender modifications and lock-ups included the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times, The Richmond (Va.) Times, and San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News.
