Neuharth: Papers Need Content For Kids

In his first public comments since pulling the plug on his proposed weekend newspaper supplement for children, retired Gannett Co. Inc. Chairman and CEO Allen H. Neuharth urged newspapers last week to publish more content for children.

“If we don’t, kids will continue to be hooked on the Internet or TV,” Neuharth said at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

In July, Neuharth stopped development of “The Paper ‘4’ Kids” supplement after unsuccessfully lobbying 11 top newspaper executives for a year-long feasibility study.
