The Gainesville (Ga.) Times recently announced several changes to its newsroom staff. Mitch Clarke was named editor, Harris Blackwood community editor, and Edie Rogers presentation editor. All promotions are effective as of the week of July 10.
Clarke replaces Alma Bowen as editor; Bowen had retired in April. Clarke is the former bureau chief of The Macon (Ga.) Telegraph. For 12 years, he covered government and politics at the Telegraph, and in 1992 was honored by the Associated Press for his deadline coverage of presidential candidate Bill Clinton?s visit to Macon.
Harris Blackwood is a published author who joined the Times in 2005. Previously, Blackwood worked at the Forsyth County (Ga.) News as community editor. He is a two-time recipient of the Joe Parham Trophy, which is awarded by the Georgia Press Association to the state?s top humor columnist.
Before coming to the Times in 1999, Edie Rogers worked at the Griffin (Ga.) Daily News as reporter and editor. She also held these positions at the Thomaston Times (Ga.) and the Jasper (Tenn.) Journal.
