Paws Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Dargaud Marina of Paris, France, to produce and distribute a new animated “Garfield” TV series.
The first season of the show — available in English and French versions — will have 26 half-hour episodes.
Mark Evanier is writing the series in collaboration with French writers. Evanier also wrote the popular “Garfield and Friends” show that appeared on CBS-TV starting in 1988.
The “Garfield” comic strip runs in about 2,600 newspapers via Universal Press Syndicate. Paws Inc. is “Garfield” creator Jim Davis’ Indiana-based company.
