‘New Jersey Herald’ Names New Editor, GM

A management restructuring by Illinois-based Quincy Newspapers Inc. has resulted in the appointment of a new editor and general manager at the New Jersey Herald in Newton.

Bruce Tomlinson, who was general manager at Newton, has been named editor. Former editor Chris Frear left the company on Jan. 10. Don Cooper, who was an executive at the company’s other daily newspaper in Illinois, the Quincy Herald-Whig, has been transferred to New Jersey to fill the general manager slot vacated by Tomlinson.

Tomlinson, 54, has been with the company for 32 years, the last five at the New Jersey Herald.

“I came up through news, and this gives me an opportunity to focus on what got me into this business in the first place,” Tomlinson said.

The company owns 13 television stations in addition to its two daily newspapers.
