The New York Times has announced that its new “Times Reader” feature — which lets users customize their NYTimes.com homepage and retreive news online or offline through a synching process — has been launched in a free beta version on the paper’s Web site.
The Times Reader, which is a downloadable application, can be used with computers running Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista. The application allows users to display New york Times content in a format fitting the size and layout of any computer screen and allows users to organize articles according to the user’s preferences.
Advertisers signing up for spots on the beta launch include AT&T, Columbia University School of Continuing Education and Tourneau. The final version of the application will launch on NYTimes.com in 2007.
