Ed Harrell is retiring as president of Tribune-Review Publishing Co. effective Dec. 31. Harrell helped establish the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and led its five affiliated newspapers for more than a decade.
Harrell, 66, was named president of the Tribune-Review Publishing Co. in 1989. Three years later, he was instrumental in launching the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Under his watch, the company acquired Gannett and Thompson newspapers in the region, launched the PittsburghLIVE Web site, and constructed the $46 million NewsWorks printing plant.
Succeeding him is Ralph Martin, who most recently served the company as its senior vice president and chief operating officer. He starts in his new position on Jan. 1, 2006.
