Editorial cartoonist Kevin “Kal” Kallaugher is touring, animating, and “artist-in-residencing.”
His current tour with the Second City comedy troupe includes a performance tonight in Raleigh, N.C.
Also, Kallaugher told E&P that his newest animated film — featuring 3-D versions of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — has been released. The film, which uses motion-capture and voice-recognition technology, can be viewed on Kallaugher’s new YouTube political-cartooning channel here.
That video channel also features or will feature films made by The Economist to celebrate Kallaugher’s recent 30th anniversary with the magazine, a film describing the cartoonist’s experiences drawing Bill Clinton, and more.
And Kallaugher has been awarded a position as artist in residence with Duke University’s School of Public Policy this November. “As part of my week-long visit, I’ll be creating a sculpture to commemorate the 2008 campaign in clay,” he said, adding that the university can cast the piece for its permanent collection.
Kallaugher, a former staffer at The Sun of Baltimore, is syndicated by the New York Times Syndicate-marketed CartoonArts International.
His Web site can be seen here.
