The News Dispatch in Michigan City, Ind., announced today the appointment of Rick Welch as its new publisher. Most recently, Welch was the publisher of The Times of Frankfort, Ind.
Welch?s journalism career has spanned both editorial and advertising. Before becoming the Frankfort Times? publisher in 2001, Welch had been advertising sales manager at the Evansville (Ind.) Courier & Press since 1998.
Previous to that, he spent four years as advertising director at the Wabash (Ind.) Plain Dealer, and four years in the same title at the Herald News Group in Merrillville, Ind.
He also worked in the advertising department of the Post-Tribune of Gary, Ind., where he also worked on the sports staff and wrote a regular rock/pop music column. At the Hobart (Ind.) Gazette, Welch worked in the advertising department, and was sports editor and entertainment editor.
Welch will start his new position with the News Dispatch on December 11.
