News Site Visitors Don’t Want To Pay
By: Wayne Robins
Surprise! Online news users don’t want to pay for content.
More than two-thirds of visitors to news sites (71%) would rather seek their news fix elsewhere than pay for it, according to a 77-page study by Borrell & Associates Inc. of Portsmouth, Va.
“The Free Versus Paid Debate” reports that 12% of print subscribers would register for the same publication’s online site, while only 2% would accept passing through a “tollgate.”
