Alaa Hassan, an Iraqi journalist who contributed to several Inter Press Service reports from Iraq, has been killed.
IPS said he “was fired on by gunmen on the way to work. It appears to be nothing personal — he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, part of the senseless violence engulfing Iraq.”
Together with Aaron Glantz, he did stories about the Haditha massacre, the local reaction to the killing of al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and the increasing violence and sectarian divisions in the south of Iraq.
