NEWSDAY HAS EYES ON NEW YORK CITY … AGAIN

Newspaper Hires Editor For Web Site

Debby Krenek, former editor in chief of the New York Daily
News, has joined Newsday of Melville, N.Y., as
associate editor for special projects. Her first assignment will
be to work on a plan for a Web site focusing on New York City,
Newsday reports.

When Chicago’s Tribune Co. purchased Newsday parent Times
Mirror last year, some industry watchers speculated as to when
and if the media giant would move into New York City proper with
a relaunch of the New York City print edition of Newsday.
This Web site could be a first step in that direction.

Krenek was the subject of lots of press coverage when she left
the Daily News and joined Manhattan-based PetPlace.com as
chief creative officer.

Newsday Editor Anthony Marro said Wednesday that the new
site will focus on New York, much as the current Newsday
site focuses on Long Island.

At the Daily News Krenek held a variety of positions,
including editor in chief. She worked at the Corpus Christi
Caller Times and the former Dallas Times Herald before
moving to New York City.
