Having just made an early-morning delivery on July 4, a newspaper van left the road between Napier and Wairoa, New Zealand, and plunged down a 100-foot a bank.
According to Hawks Bay Today, police think black ice may have caused the van to skid off the road.
Police were called when the driver failed to make subsequent deliveries. In fact, he had walked away from the accident and made his way home to Napier without notifying emergency services.
Skid marks eventually led investigators to the creek where the van came to a stop. Hawks Bay Today reported police were about to more thoroughly search the area when the driver turned up in Napier.
Though authorities were within minutes of calling search and rescue services and conducting a grid search, police said charges would not likely to be filed.
