Leave it to the Internet — the ultimate media model of linkability — to get most of Chicago’s newspapers to band together.
Beginning today, ChicagoJobs.com went live. The site is geared toward job seekers and employers in the 11-county area in and around the Windy City, the suburban Daily Herald reports.
The venture is an unprecedented comingling of Chicago Sun-Times parent Hollinger International Inc., Daily Herald-parent Paddock Publications Inc., Liberty Group Publishing, Shaw Newspapers and Shaker Recruitment Advertising and Communications. Daily newspapers involved include the Aurora Beacon News, Elgin Courier News, Kane County Chronicle, Naperville Sun, Waukegan News Sun, and Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake. Weeklies included are the Pioneer Press, Press-Republican and Reporter-Progress publications.
The Chicago Tribune is not a participant.
In February 2001, Hollinger and Paddock teamed up on Chicagojobnetwork.com, which shut down with the advent of the new site.
The site will battle Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com, jointly owned by Tribune Co., Gannett Co. Inc. and Knight Ridder.
