Jim Pollard to vice president of advertising and marketing for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group from advertising director at the Houston Chronicle. Pollard succeeds Bob Balzer, who was recently named publisher of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in Ontario.
Steve O’Sullivan to the newly created position of executive editor, Los Angeles Newspaper Group, Inland Empire, from managing editor of The Macon (Ga.) Telegraph. O’Sullivan will be responsible for the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the Redlands Daily Facts, and The Sun in San Bernardino.

Samuel C. Wolgemuth to president and ceo of Irvine-based Freedom Communications Inc., from president of Freedom Magazines, effective Oct. 1. Wolgemuth succeeds James N. Rosse, who announced his impending retirement last year. Freedom Communications owns 27 newspapers, including The Orange County Register (E&P, Aug. 14, p. 12).

Kerry Klumpe to managing editor of The Brunswick News from managing editor of a national business and news magazine for lawyers based in Chicago. Klumpe succeeds Hank Rowland, who was recently named metro editor.

Travis Ballagh to the newly created position of alternative delivery audit manager, newspapers, for the Audit Bureau of Circulations from central region manager, newspapers.
Craig Knudsen to central region manager, newspapers, from eastern region audit manager at abc.

Robin Crump to general manager of Standard Publishing in Shepherdsville and Landmark Web Press in Shelbyville from production manager at Standard. The two printing plants are owned by Landmark Community Newspapers Inc.

Michael Moses to corporate advertising director for retail advertising at the Community Newspaper Co. in Needham from advertising director for cnc’s North Shore newspapers in Danvers.

Francis J. Zankowski to ceo of New Mass. Media Inc. in Hatfield from publisher of the Hartford (Conn.) Advocate. Zankowski will oversee operations for New Mass. Media’s five alternative weekly newspapers: the Valley Advocate in Hatfield, the Hartford Advocate, the New Haven (Conn.) Advocate, the Fairfield County (Conn.) Weekly, and the Westchester County (N.Y.) Weekly.

Glenn Reedus to online editor at The Oakland Press in Pontiac from night metro editor at the daily.

Phil Taylor to regional vice president for the southern region of Central Valley Publishing Inc. from operations manager at the Crystal City-based company. cvp is the parent of 33 media publications, all in California.

Tom Keane to New York sales manager at Parade Publications from advertising sales representative.

North Carolina
Gwen Goodman to circulation director at The Daily Reflector in Greenville from circulation operations manager. Goodman succeeds Richard Bryant, who left to become circulation director at the daily Longview (Texas) News-Journal. (See “”Texas,”” below.)

Bill Anderson to vice president of advertising for Chicago-based Liberty Group Publishing from publisher and general manager of The Spirit in Punxsutawney. Anderson’s position will be based in Pennsylvania.

Ronald Cook to communications coordinator in human resources at the San Antonio Express-News from principal of his own private communications consulting company.

Richard Bryant to circulation director of the Longview News-Journal from circulation director at The Daily Reflector in Greenville, N.C. Bryant succeeds Rick Deaver, who became circulation director for the Waco Tribune-Herald.

Timothy W. Williams, executive director of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, elected president of Newspaper Association Managers Inc. Williams succeeds Ginger Stanley of the Virginia Press Association. Dennis Merrell, Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association, elected vice president, and William B. Keller, Alabama Press Association, elected secretary.

Deborah Seward to news editor in Paris for The Associated Press from newswoman at the Paris bureau. Seward succeeds Jocelyn Noveck, who was named chief of bureau in Israel in June.
