North Star Writers Group has added humorist Mike Ball to its lineup of 17 weekly columnists as the syndicate nears its first anniversary.
Ball, whose feature is titled “What I’ve Learned So Far,” is a winner of the 2003 Erma Bomeck Writing Competition. In addition to doing columns, he has penned songs, ads, slogans, and more.
North Star, which turns one on Dec. 7, has placed its content in about 50 newspapers during its first year and also provided material to magazines. The syndicate’s roster includes eight Op-Ed writers, two business writers, and seven feature columnists.
“We have intentionally recruited columnists and writers from outside the traditional major media markets like New York, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.,” said Dan Calabrese, North Star’s editor in chief. “We want to offer newspapers of all sizes — from community weeklies to mid-size dailies to major dailies — voices from a different perspective.”
The leadership of North Star also includes managing editor Darcey Blain.
