Matthew Thomas Fahey, 25, pleaded not guilty July 30 to charges related to the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 14-year-old newspaper carrier in Fairfax, Minn.
A grand jury had indicted Fahey for the May 4 crimes, for which he faces a sentence of 12 years to life, according to an Aug. 1 report by Tom Cherveny in the West Central Tribune, Wilmar, Minn.
With bail set at $1 million, Fahey remains jailed. His trial is not scheduled to begin until Jan. 25, giving both sides ample time to analyze evidence and the judge time to rule on issues related to possible aggravating factors, which could affect sentencing if Fahey is found guilty.
