online auction:

F1%5Fx/103-9182337-6957438). The bidding on www.sothebys.amazon.com ends April 13.

Seventy photos from the 1920s to 1970s are being offered. The paper says as much as $150,000

could be fetched in the auction.

‘These photographs are some of the most exciting boxing pictures ever made and are particularly

notable for their outlines, three-dimensional look — a result of the Daily News’ pioneering use

of overhead lighting for boxing matches,’ says Sotheby’s Photography Specialist David Brown.

Photos include matches involving Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, and Cassius Clay (later known as

Muhammad Ali).

The newspaper says it is offering the original vintage prints because its entire photo

collection has been digitized. The Daily News will retain copyright on all images sold.
