Layoffs Hit Hard At Abuzz, Winetoday.com

New York Times Digital cut 47 jobs or about 15% of its staff,
according to a report in The New York Times Thursday. The
latest move follows a downsizing of 69 employees in January.

Two-thirds of the layoffs came at the company’s Abuzz and
Winetoday.com units. Abuzz, a knowledge sharing technology, will
now be run out of the offices of Boston.com. Winetoday.com will
be run from New York and its California offices will be closed.

New York Times Digital CEO Martin A. Nisenholtz told the
Times that the company would continue to use Abuzz
technology on its Web sites. He said the effort to license the
technology to other sites was ending.
