‘NYT’ Op-Ed Cartoon Gets Funnier — With ‘Scooter’ Reference

By: E&P Staff

For the Fourth of July, The New York Times published one of its periodic “Op-Art’ illustrations on its Op-Ed page. Maira Kalman and well-known cartoonist Rick Meyerowitz did this one. Titled “Things We Love About America,” it includes visual tributes to Bob Dylan, “Two guys from Ecuador baking bagels in Brooklyn,” designer dogs, and the like.

But a little drawing in the top left corner, no doubt completed days ago, has a whole new meaning today. It’s labeled “Scooter Commuter,” and shows a businessman on atwo-wheeler heading for work.

Not President Bush.
