The New York Times published this morning its first book serialization, in a special 16-page tabloid section called “The Great Summer Read.” The first selection was chapter one of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby,” with more to come tomorrow. “By Sunday, you’ve read the whole book!” the paper promises.
The section is sponsored by BMW, which has a back cover ad. The only other ad is a full page for Scribner, the book publisher, touting five of Fitzgerald’s novels.
