The Chicago Sun-Times Website, Suntimes.com, set record page views in July of 33,765,968, spiked by interest in the federeal corruption trial of impeached Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
July was the fifth consecutive month that topped the 30 million mark, parent Sun-Times Media announced Thursday.
According to data from Omniture, the July page views figures topped the previous record of 33,334,812 set last May.
Omniture reported that 3.49 million unique visitors for the month were from the Chicago DMA, accounting for 44.7% of total visitors to the site in July.
“Suntimes.com traffic has been up for months now from interest in the Blagojevich trial,” said Sun-Times Publisher John Barron. “We are pleased to be able to offer our readers up-to-the-minute updates through stories and blog posts on that particular story and other big stories in the Chicago area,” added Barron, who is also publisher of the Pioneer Press chain of weeklies, and group publisher and senior vice president-news/editorial for Sun-Times Media.
