Online help-wanted ads inched up 0.5% in August compared to July, according to the Conference Board’s Help-Wanted Online Data Series. Year-over-year, online ad posts were up 12% in August.
“The August numbers point to a continued softening in labor demand,” Gad Levanon, an economist with the Conference Board, said in a statement. “August is typically a month when businesses step up hiring.”
Of the 0.5% increase in August, new ad posting rose 6% offsetting the decline in reposted ads.
The regions that experienced the largest increases year-over-year in online ads were West South Central (up 32%), Mountain (up 24%), and East North Central (up 24%).
The state of Nevada posted the most job vacancies followed by Alaska, Montana, Oregon, and Colorado.
The top metro areas that posted the most vacancies follows in order: Austin, Texas; San Francisco; and San Jose, Calif.
