Best Opinion Writing and Design Praised
The Association of Opinion Page Editors recently awarded five newspapers for the best op-ed writing and design at its annual conference in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Best Op-Ed Feature Award went to the San Francisco Chronicle for the column ?Echoes of Rwanda,? published April 5.
The Best Theme Page Award went to The Hartford (Conn.) Courant, for the entry ?Colonial Hartford’s Slave Society,? published Sept. 20, 1998.
The Best Op-Ed Page Award went to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for its Feb. 7 entry.
The Best Series Award went to Newsday in Long Island, N.Y., for its series, ?A Search for Community,? which started March 29.
The Best Overall Section went to the Los Angeles Times for its August 30, 1998 issue.
