“Open Season,” which came to movie theaters on Sept. 29, continues to do well a month later.

This weekend, the film took in $6.1 million to finish fifth at the box office. It earned nearly as much as the newer “Flags of Our Fathers,” which came in fourth with $6.35 million.

The first three finishers were “Saw III” ($34.3 million), “The Departed” ($9.8 million), and “The Prestige” ($9.6 million).

“Open Season” is based on a story by “In the Bleachers” cartoonist Steve Moore and John Carls. Moore (of Universal Press Syndicate) and Carls are also executive producers of the animated film, which features animals who turn against their hunters.

The movie’s voice cast includes Martin Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher, Debra Messing, and Gary Sinise.
