‘Open Season’ Finishes Third in Box-Office Gross

‘Open Season’ finished third at the box office during its second weekend.

The movie — which a syndicated cartoonist helped create — grossed $16 million. Finishing first and second this past weekend were “The Departed (with $27 million) and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning ($19.2 million).

During its first weekend, “Open Season” topped the box office with $23 million.

“Open Season” is based on an original story by “In the Bleachers” cartoonist Steve Moore and John Carls. Moore (of Universal Press Syndicate) and Carls are also executive producers of the animated film, which features animals who turn against their hunters.

The movie’s voice cast includes Martin Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher, Debra Messing, and Gary Sinise.
