‘Open Season’ Is America’s Top Movie

A movie that a syndicated cartoonist helped create finished number one at the box office this past weekend.

“Open Season,” which earned $23 million in its first weekend, was based on an original story by “In the Bleachers” cartoonist Steve Moore and John Carls. Moore (of Universal Press Syndicate) and Carls were also executive producers of the animated film, which features animals who turn against their hunters.

The movie’s voice cast includes Martin Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher, Debra Messing, and Gary Sinise.
