An exhibit called “Outside the Frame” will open March 19 and run through July 14 at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, Calif.

The show features “Peanuts” comics in which various characters are mentioned but not seen. They include the Red Baron, the Little Red-Haired Girl, Snoopy’s nemesis the Cat Next Door, and of course all kinds of adults such as Charlie Brown’s barber father.

Why were grown-ups not visible? Schulz (1922-2000) once said “adults bring everything back to reality. And it just spoils it.” He added that his comic’s size was so small that it would have been hard to fit adults.

The exhibit also features strips with unseen things, such as the inside of Snoopy’s doghouse.

“Peanuts” reruns continue to be syndicated by United Media.
