The computer-animated “Over the Hedge” movie is scheduled to open in theaters May 19.

Based on the humor strip of the same name, the DreamWorks film will feature the voices of Garry Shandling as Verne the sensitive turtle and Bruce Willis as RJ the mischievous raccoon. (At one point, RJ was scheduled to be voiced by Jim Carrey.)

Cast members also include Steve Carell, Allison Janney, Avril Lavigne, Eugene Levy, Nick Nolte, Catherine O’Hara, William Shatner, and Wanda Sykes, among others.

The “Over the Hedge” comic, which focuses on a bunch of animals living near an encroaching suburbia, is by Michael Fry and T Lewis of United Media.

In related news, Andrews McMeel Publishing will release the “Over the Hedge: Stuffed Animals” paperback collection in March.
