Clay Bennett has received the 2007 Thomas Nast Award for best international editorial cartoons from the Overseas Press Club of America (OPC).
Bennett won the award for his Christian Science Monitor work. He’s now with the Chattanooga (Tenn.) Times Free Press and Washington Post Writers Group.
The judges said Bennett’s cartoons “do what all great cartoons do: make you laugh and groan at the same time.”
Bennett quipped: “I accept this award as a tribute to my neurotic insecurity and the obsessive work ethic it inspires.”
Earlier this month, Bennett was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. He won that award in 2002.
Receiving an OPC “citation” in the cartooning category was Mike Luckovich of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Creators Syndicate.
