A Marine home on leave from the war in Iraq was found dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sharp County Sheriff Dale Weaver said the body of Sgt. Daniel Jonas Cook, 28, was found Wednesday at a friend?s home. Cook?s friends became concerned because of some things Cook had said to his estranged wife during a telephone call.
Cook was on a two-week leave from military duty in Iraq, the Batesville Guard newspaper reported. He grew up at Evening Shade and was staying with a friend in the area.
Weaver said Cook?s estranged wife called friends after talking to Cook and was worried about his welfare. The Cooks were going through a divorce.
The body was sent to the state medical examiner?s office for an autopsy, but foul play is not suspected, Weaver said.
