The Arizona Daily Star in Tucson announced today that it has launched an online database to provide an accounting of the death toll among illegal immigrants attempting to cross into the United States through southern Arizona.
The database, the first of its kind, includes information going back to 2001, with many of the deceased still unidentified. It’s available at azstarnet.com.
This year, the Star counts 221 deaths in southern Arizona alone.
Michael Marizco, a Star border reporter, and Andrew Satter, online producer, compiled the database.
