The funny thing about news is that it isn’t always, well, new. Take this video that The New York Times put together last week.
The Times looked into the stories of the many East Germans who tried to flee to the west via Bulgaria’s southern border. Most were caught, some were killed and about 2% actually managed to escape. The Times talks to people affected by all these scenarios, including one couple who made it to the border until the woman was shot, but survived. Eventually, after a stint in jail for both of them, they were reunited.
I love the idea of forgotten history being brought to light, and this Times video is a great example of that.
