A new initiative from The Project for Excellence in Journalism will attempt to analyze media content in real-time, and report the results in a weekly “News Coverage Index.”
PEJ says the index will try to determine what the media is choosing to cover and not cover, analyzing news content from 40 different sources across multiple platforms six days per week. Each week, the group will publish a report on its findings that will examine the “agenda” of the news, and will include charts and narrative analysis. The weekly rpeort will also break down the coverage by media sectors.
The index’s lead author will be Mark Jurkowitz, and PeJ Research Director Amy Mitchell will also be involved. It will be launched on Jan. 9, on the PEJ Web site., and will be published every Tuesday thereafter.
