The Philadelphia Daily News is expanding its circulation area to include eight additional counties surrounding the city as well as parts of New Jersey. The decision was based mainly on the paper’s sports coverage. Previously, the Daily News was only available in Philadelphia and select parts of some suburbs.
“The expanded home-delivery area for the Daily News … is the result of recent changes in our transportation contracts, with thanks to the foresight and cooperation of our union leaders,” Brian Tierney, CEO of Philadelphia Media Holdings, which publishes the Daily News, said in a statement.
Tierney said the Daily News is “currently experiencing an increase in circulation for the first time in four years.” According to the latest data from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, daily circulation at the Daily News fell 7% to 112,540 copies for the six-month period ending September 2006.
