The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News have launched an ad-supported quick-read news summary section sponsored by Commerce Bank.

“For too long, we only gave readers one way to read the news,” Brian Tierney, CEO of parent company Philadelphia Media Holdings, said in a statement. “As a new company, we want to understand better the needs of readers, and deliver on those needs.”

In the Inquirer, the section is called Inquirer Express, and is featured on the back of the Sports section. It recaps news and editorial. The Daily News features Daily News at a Glance.

The Express page runs five columns of news summaries divided by the headings, On Page One, Nation & World, Local News, and Photo of the Day. A Commerce Bank ad runs across the bottom of the page.

Philadelphia Media Holdings declined to say how much money Commerce Bank paid for the sponsorship.
