“Pickles” beat “Gasoline Alley” in a poll billed as “the first Albuquerque Journal Comics Shootout.”

Readers of the New Mexico paper voted 3,104 to 1,311 — mostly via the Internet — in favor of Brian Crane’s Washington Post Writers Group strip over the Frank King-created Tribune Media Services strip now done by Jim Scancarellii.

This month’s “Comics Shootout” is between “Get Fuzzy” by Darby Conley of United Media and “Hi & Lois” by Brian Walker, Greg Walker, and Chance Browne of King Features Syndicate. The latter strip was originally done by Mort Walker and Dik Browne — the fathers of the current cartoonists.
