PolitiFact Launches in New Hampshire

The Truth-O-Meter is back in the Granite State.

PolitiFact® New Hampshire was launched Sunday in partnership with The Telegraph of Nashua, part of a growing national network of state partnerships with PolitiFact.com, the Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-checking website of the Tampa Bay Times. The site can be accessed at www.politifactnh.com.

The Telegraph had been part of a unique PolitiFact effort last year in which reporters from New Hampshire news organizations wrote PolitiFact fact-checks on claims by the presidential candidates. That partnership concluded with the primary election in January. Now, the Telegraph will be using the Truth-O-Meter on state and local politicians.

“The reporters and editors at the Telegraph have become quite experienced with our fact-checking, so the paper is an ideal partner,” said PolitiFact Editor Bill Adair.

“I heard from several readers how much they appreciated the no-nonsense approach of PolitiFact,” said Telegraph Publisher Terrence Williams. “This type of journalism gives an accurate appraisal of politicians’ records and claims. It’s serious reporting and the type of information that you won’t get anywhere else.”

PolitiFact New Hampshire has the same journalistic approach and reader-friendly design as PolitiFact. It is integrated with the national site and uses PolitiFact’s distinctive Truth-O-Meter to rate the accuracy of statements by public officials.

The Times is offering affiliate opportunities to news organizations in other states.

The New Hampshire partnership is the 11th in a national network of affiliate sites. The others are PolitiFact Florida, PolitiFact Georgia, PolitiFact New Jersey, PolitiFact Ohio, PolitiFact Oregon, PolitiFact Rhode Island, PolitiFact Tennessee, PolitiFact Texas, PolitiFact Virginia, and PolitiFact Wisconsin.
