A Gallup poll released Friday finds that 1 in 5 Americans now view Iran, which is seeking nuclear weapons, as an “immediate” threat to the U.S., with another 65% considering the country a long-term threat.
About 3 in 4 Americans say are very (27%) or somewhat (47%) worrie about Iran’s abiliy to develop nuclear weapons. Eight in 10 of the sample believe that Iran is, in fact, attempting to develop nuclear weapons.
Unlike many issues there is not such a wide partisan divide on this issue, according to Gallup, with Republicans only somewhat more alarmed about Iran than Democrats.
Results are based on interviews with 1006 adults nationwide, from Jan. 20 to 22.
