PowerOne Media Inc. of Troy, N.Y., recently announced contracts for 16 new CarCast marketplaces for Web sites representing 23 newspapers with a combined circulation of 1.2 million.
The Web sites that have contracted CarCast as their automotive vertical are owned by MediaNews Group, Media General, the New York Times Regional Group, Freedom Communications, E.W. Scripps, and CNHI, in addition to several independent newspapers. Included in the latest deals are The Oakland (Calif.) Tribune, the Los Angeles Daily News, The Gainesville (Fla.) Sun, and the Chattanooga (Tenn.) Times Free Press.
PowerOne also signed corporate CarCast contracts with MediaNews and Media General — which may lead to the rollout of additional markets at those chains.
PowerOne executives said the company had recently made a number of enhancements to improve the functionality of CarCast for dealers, consumers, and newspapers — including the ability to put dealers’ display ads online. (For an example, see www.ledgerautos.com.)
In total, CarCast is being used in 70 markets by more than 530 auto dealers, the company said.
