Press Must Stay on Ashcroft’s Case

Had it not been for an anonymous whistle-blower in the U.S. Justice Department, the press might not have known about an 86-page draft of a sequel to the USA Patriot Act until the nation was at war with Iraq, when the public might have been much more receptive to some of the most radical national-security revisions of the Constitution in our history.
