A “Garfield” educational Web site has been launched.
It’s the brainchild of Paws Inc. — the company founded by “Garfield” creator Jim Davis; and Ball State University — Davis’ alma mater. Other institutions and people are also involved.
The free “Professor Garfield” site (www.professorgarfield.org) includes educational games, activities, instruction, drills, and demonstrations in subjects such as math, social studies, art, science, health, and reading.
Davis said comics are “an overlooked, yet readily accessible learning tool. If you can tickle a child’s funny bone, you can tickle and stimulate his [or her] brain.”
Universal Press Syndicate distributes the “Garfield” comic strip to about 2,600 newspapers.
