PROLIFERATING PRESSPOINT

Olympians To Get Newspapers From Home

from this week’s Editor & Publisher magazine:

PressPoint entered its 13th market last month when it began doing
business in Sydney, Australia, in anticipation of the 2000 Summer
Olympics – for which it arranged availability of its Global Editions of
newspapers from around the world.

New York-based PressPoint sells the advertising, electronically
distributes, and arranges local printing of the specially prepared
editions. Copies at the Summer Games will be available at four
locations in the Olympic park and throughout Sydney and other
Australian cities.

At the same time, PressPoint added the Financial Times to its roster of
publications, allowing Australians to read the FT’s Global Edition
almost a day earlier than its broadsheet edition. The Global Edition’s
sheets share the distinctive salmon-pink coloration of the web-printed
copies’ newsprint. ‘We continue to work with the FT to identify
additional markets for which PressPoint’s service could benefit their
readers,’ said PressPoint President James Cutie.

The FT is among nine new PressPoint publishing partners, bringing the
total to 34. The others are the U.K.’s national Daily Telegraph;
Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter, Sweden’s largest and oldest dailies;
leading Italian dailies Il Giornale and La Stampa; Korea’s first
national newspaper, Dong-A-Ilbo; Russia’s largest-circulation
newspaper, Komsomolskaya Pravda; and Asharq Al Awsat, one of Saudi
Arabia’s most widely circulated dailies.

Other markets PressPoint expects to enter this year are Canada, Italy,
France, Germany, Czech Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, and South
Africa. It also reported that its EventWorks business distributed 4,500
Global Editions in late February to the Society of Automotive Engineers
World Congress in Detroit, which drew participants from more than 80
countries.
