New owners of a local daily in Spain’s Canary Islands are making major changes to the paper and its production, including an expansion of the Milenium editorial system from ProtecMedia.
La Gaceta de Canarias has established a second news bureau, on the island of La Palma, in addition to its bureau in Tenerife in order to expand coverage of all seven islands. The Tenerife newsroom has been modernized and expanded, and the paper has added a total of 26 seats to the installation between the two bureaus.
In addition to expanding coverage, La Gaceta also is changing its format, going to a smaller size similar to that of a magazine.
La Gaceta’s network is no longer connected to Spain’s national daily El Mundo, but the two papers have kept a distribution agreement intact. The papers will be sold together for the price of one, although La Gaceta will no longer be inserted into El Mundo.
