Publishers Angry Over Newsprint Spikes

Publishers across the U.S. are reacting with outrage at the latest round of newsprint price increases from North American providers.

“The industry can’t stomach any more price hikes,” said Washington Post (Click for QuickCap) Publisher Jerry Smith. “It’s not acceptable.”

The Newsprint Pricing Board said it wasn’t responsible for the dramatic hikes, pointing the finger at rising forestry costs in North and South America.

“I guess we have no choice but to pay it,” said Johnny Rocket, business manager at the Iowa City Press-Citizen (Click for QuickCap). “What can you do?”
