Magex Offers Protected Electronic Distribution

A new online publishing service is moving to secure information sold online, including newsletters, research reports, and technical journals. PublishOne, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based company that will help businesses sell information over the Web, announced this week a partnership with Magex, a London-based digital rights management group.

PublishOne will incorporate Magex’s financial clearinghouse into its service, set to launch later this year. “The market for instant delivery of online business information is here, as seen by the moves already being made by Pearson and Bloomberg,” said Magex CEO Peter Beverley in a statement.

Magex says its service protects digital content and allows for secure online distribution and payment. The company raised $80 million in its first round of private equity funding. Major shareholders include Reuters, GE Capital, and Universal Music Group.
