Newspaper Group Reports Soft Advertising Revenues

Pulitzer Inc. has announced the sale of the Troy (Ohio)
Daily News to The Brown Publishing Co. Terms were not
disclosed.

The sale includes the weekly publication, Miami Valley
Weekly, and a commercial printing business. The Daily
News has a paid circulation of 10,838 and the Miami Valley
Sunday News’ circulation is 12,298. Pulitzer acquired the
Troy daily in late 1998 from the Kuser family.

Pulitzer’s sale of the Troy newspaper, along with the sale of its
St. Louis ISP business, will result in an after-tax charge to
first-quarter earnings of $0.08 to $0.10 per diluted share, the
company said.

Robert C. Woodworth, president and CEO of Pulitzer, said, “We
indicated in our year-end earnings announcement on Feb. 12 that
we were concerned about weak advertising demand, particularly in
retail and help-wanted classified advertising, and, as with many
other publishing companies, we continue to experience soft
demand.”
