(AP) Tracy Rafter has been named publisher and chief executive officer of the Daily News of Los Angeles.
Rafter, 39, replaces John Schueler, who was recently promoted to president and chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, a division of MediaNews Group of Denver.
Since 2001, Rafter had been senior vice president for advertising and marketing at LANG, which includes eight daily newspapers in Southern California.
Rafter began her career in advertising sales management in Idaho, after which she was general manager for a group of twice-weekly newspapers in suburban St. Louis for 15 years.
She also has served as publisher at a suburban Pennsylvania newspaper group, publisher of The Times in Pawtucket, R.I., and group publisher of the Taunton Daily Gazette and The Herald News in Fall River, Mass.
Rafter owned a group of weeklies in Oregon and Washington prior to joining LANG in 2001.
In addition to the Daily News, LANG newspapers include the Long Beach Press-Telegram, the Pasadena Star-News, The Whittier Daily News, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in Ontario, The Sun in San Bernardino and the Redlands Daily Facts.
