Maline Hazle has been named city editor of the Record Searchlight in Redding, Calif., effective March 14.

Hazle, 58, joined the Record Searchlight in 1998. She most recently served as a reporter. Before that she spent 22 years with the San Jose Mercury News, where as a reporter she shared a Pulitzer Prize for the paper’s coverage of the October 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

Hazle succeeds Pat Butler, who has served as city editor for the past five years before leaving in February to become editor of The Union in Grass Valley, Calif.
