The Record Searchlight is offering voluntary separation packages to employees aged 55 or older with 10 years on the job at the Redding, Calif., daily.
About 18 of its approximately 200 full-time and part-time employees are eligible for the buyout.
“This plan provides for eligible employees a generous package of attractive benefits, compensation and a health care benefit subsidy,” Shanna S. Cannon, the paper’s president and publisher, said in the announcement of the buyout. “I can’t stress enough that this voluntary opportunity is a long-term solution to the challenges facing our newspaper.”
Cannon added that the paper is doing well: “Last year, the Record Searchlight exceeded its operating plan and the first few months of this year are a good start on achieving continued success in 2007.”
